The final week looms. The 17 individuals who comprise ieltscommunity19 face their last week of three hour torture sessions. Some observations from my side:
- this is a very passive class
- there seem to be no leaders
- there is very little student-student interaction
- everybody is very dour and glum (look these words up)
- I am getting lots of negative vibrations and unhappy, worried, grumpy faces
- some people seem to expect an instant solution for all their IELTS deficiencies
- the weather is hotting up, tempers are getting frayed and the pressure is mounting
Go out and enjoy your weekend. Don't worry, the course will be over before you know it.
Tony
Well, if this does not generate any response, then you truly are a lost cause...
Do not forget to bring your Insight into IELTS book on TUESDAY 22 May for the timed testing ( I have the audio CD - I bought my personal copy).
On Monday and Tuesday you will be expected to produce a Task 1 AND a Task 2 writing within the 60 minutes, otherwise you will crash in the actual IELTS.

dear Mr. tony,
i would like to say that you are quite right about your comments, however, each of us has his own circumstances and his own special responsibilities, so instead of spending most of the time on the web, we can read something or write something, and let others ( relativs) use the computer after us .
we are passive because we did not know that IELTS is so hard, we thought that we can deal with english, but we discover that we know nothing about it, and in the same time there is not enough time to know more and practice more.
you do know Mr. tony that most of us are doing IELTS for immigration wich is so vital to us,we need specific points to increase our pass mark, however, it seemed that this target is not easy.....
dispite the fact that it is important, i can not say i gave up, rather i will stop worry since it is not a matter of life or death, i will try my best and the rest i will leave to GOD.
O.K, What do we have here? when I was studying in ( ieltscommunity 18), I asked Tony " Is it possible that after conducting this course to raise my scores ? let us say from 5 to 6 or 7 grade?) He answered " unlikely." You see, to raise your scores you have to spend 100 hours at the minimum of studying to raise your scores one grade only. If we do the "Math" 100 Divided on 2 hours/day, then you need 50 days at least. This is only for ( Grammer)so, for ( Vocabulary), you need another 50 days and you could imagine the rest. So, tyo raise the scores from grade 5 " that most of the people have to Grade 7, you need 200 days at least. If you want my advise( Iam not perfect as well), purchase these two books from " All Print":
1- English Grammer In Use ( Intermediate level).
2- Vocabulary ( for intermediate level).
These two books are simple and nice to read and VERRY; VERY USEFUL.
The most importing thing: you have to be a fan of English language. Do not read for reading only, read for fun, for information, for intertainment. you will sense later on how much progress you have achieved.
Hello! Some dialogue at last!
Khawla gives a gracious reply, as you would expect from a polite, well-brought up young lady, to my rather intemperate scolding post.
IELTS did not suddenly 'come out of the blue'. The fact that you are doing the actual exam the day AFTER you finish the course is an example of:
bad planning?
bad luck?
your fate in life conspiring against you?
Ah well, we just get on with it as exemplified, par excellence' by the ultra pragmatic 'can do' attitude of the Firas IELTS student.
No anguishing, no bemoaning the lack of time, no gnashing of teeth at the capriciousness of the IELTS exam - no way! This guy rolls up his sleeves and gets on with meeting this challenge HEAD ON! He devours the Learning Zone; he posts and posts on the weblog; he does extra homework; he buys extra books and keeps asking question after question in the IELTS class. Sure Firas worries, don't we all? But it does not paralyse him? On the contrary, it energises him to give this challenge his supreme best effort and seize that opportunity to make his future happen. This is the spirit of a fellow Baghdadi - the illustrious Mais Al Bassam!
Ladies and gentlemen
You have been tried
You have been weighed
You have been measured
AND some of you have been found wanting!
So be it!
Do a 'Firas Ghazi' and give it your best shot - no excuses, please!
Off to the Cup Final soon - follow your respective dream(s), ladies and gentlemen.
BFN
Tony
Hmm, so much for the other 16 members of the class...
