my results

good morning all,

I am very sorry to announce my bad results to you all, however, I should do this since I promised to do it, and I hope that no one ever would get the same.

listening:6 ( 5 on Tuesday )
reading: 6.9 ( 6 on Tuesday )
writing: 7 ( 7 on Tuesday )
speaking: 7 ( 7 on Tuesday)

overall: 6 !!!!!!!!!!

now, the problem is not only the overall results, but that I needed band 7 in all four skills to fulfil the condition for immigration.

I am ready to read your comments regarding this e-mail, and I will appreciat them no matter how passive they are going to be.(please do not tell me to repeat it because I will not do it again).

I will try to contact my brother in Canada to know if anything can be done regarding the overall points, and I am ready to hear any suggestion from you side.

regards,
keep in touch.

Hi Khawla,

I was eagerly waiting for your result as I knew yesterday the results of Hilal and another Iraqi guy from our batch, they scored 5.5.

Now, Speaking is always the most difficult one, and I believe you are very close to what you need, since you almost scored 7 in 3 out of 4!

I believe you need to repeat this test at least (one more time). This way, you will not feel guilty for not repeating a test which may get you what you need.

I encourage you to re-consider and book for your next exam.

Please keep in touch.

Maha

Everything is relative. You have achieved a very respectable set of scores.

You were aiming for 7.0 7.0 7.0 7.0 - the 'gold standard'. This is a very tall order indeed.

You are so disappointed that you cannot face re-sitting IELTS. this is quite understandable.

It was very brave of you to post your results and to share with us your frustration and feelings of disappointment - such is life and IELTS.

If you can still process your papers with these scores then so be it. The brutal truth is that your actual scores reflected your performance during the course. You have a good standard in speaking and writing, but you are weaker in listening and reading - the receptive skills that you can work on by yourself.

OK then, go away and reflect on how you can raise your standard in listening and reading - do you interact with native speakers - can they encourage you? Do you read for pleasure? The Internet has masses of material that can help your listening and reading. Have you been working on extending further your range of vocabulary and your appreciation of idioms?

Be positive, Khawla. I sensed in you that 'self-doubt' and worry - I could see that you were putting yourself under immense pressure.

There is no easy, magic answer.

Blood.
Tears.
Toil.
Sweat.

Join my next weblog, it will be a new set of pilgrims with their dreams and ambitions.

Thinking of you and wishing you all the best, Khawla

Best regards

Tony

Congratulation!

Khawla,

May be I do not know you, but as a former IELTS student I salute you for the great accomplishment. It is indeed not flattering words or encouraging. It is the truth. Most of the people who speak English as a second language do not have your skills. It is a great achievement from the first battle. Now you know where you stand, where your weakness, and how to raise your scores. Go for it and beat the challenge. May be, I had not been through what you had, but I know what is the feeling of sitting again on that chair (the EXAM). No WAY OUT! Accept the challenge, as the 'master' said “read for pleasure" and train your skills through a massive sources in the internet. It is the challenge of your life.

All the best.
